Rooted in the winemaking tradition of the Penedès since the sixteenth century, the Torres family founded its winery in Vilafranca del Penedès in 1870, more than 150 years ago.
Each generation has conveyed the passion for wine culture, combining respect for the land and family legacy with a firm commitment to innovation.
Today, the fifth generation focuses on the production of wines from unique vineyards and historic estates, the recovery of ancestral varieties and regenerative viticulture to face climate change.
The family also continues producing a renowned selection of brandies and other spirits of international prestige under the Juan Torres Master Distillers division, which reflect the same commitment to quality and innovation.
The fight against the climate emergency has been one of its lines of action since 2008, through adaptation and mitigation actions to reduce CO2 emissions. Historically present in the Penedès, Conca de Barberà, Priorat and Costers del Segre, Familia Torres also has vineyards and wineries in the main Spanish wine regions – Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Rueda and Rías Baixas – as well as in Chile and California. Familia Torres is a member of the Primum Familiae Vini and co-founder of International Wineries for Climate Action, and of the Association of Regenerative Viticulture.

Our roots in the Penedès date back centuries, and from that soil we learnt two truths: deep love and respect for the land, and curiosity about what lies ahead.
Our family has been dedicated to wine for five generations. We celebrate life, we care for the earth and we carry on our legacy: this is our vision.
We began producing wine in Penedès in 1870, although our winegrowing roots date back to the 16th century, and we’ve been fortunate enough that each generation has felt the same devotion to and love for the land.
Ours has been, and is, a life lived among the vines, weaving an inseparable connection to the landscapes of wine.
The wines we make today under the name Familia Torres represent a mosaic of properties that are largely historical, with winegrowing associations that reach far into the past.
We know that the same lands we work today were already being cultivated hundreds or even thousands of years ago. We feel lucky and, at the same time, responsible for ensuring that these vines and landscapes continue to speak through the wines that are made from them: honest and exuberant wines with an emphasis on elegance and a unique sense of place.
Tradition teaches where we come from, innovation teaches us where we are going.

With documented roots as winegrowers dating back to 1559, the family established its winery in 1870 in the Penedès, laying the foundation for what would become one of the most respected names in global winemaking.

Last year 2025, Miquel Torres was named among «The 100 Latinos Most Committed to Climate Action 2025», announced on October 24, International Day Against Climate Change.
Recognized by the environmental NGO Sachamama in the list honoring the leaders who truly generate real impact through climate action, this acknowledgment highlighted his pioneering role in transforming the wine industry toward a Sustainable and Responsible Future, positioning Familia Torres as global references of environmental leadership.
On October 24th 2025, International Day Against Climate Change, Miguel A. Torres, President of Familia Torres, was recognized as one of ‘The 100 Latinos Most Committed to Climate Action 2025’, a list promoted by the Miami-based environmental NGO Sachamama in collaboration with Agencia EFE.
The accolade highlights leaders, activists, and public figures whose work generates a tangible impact in addressing the global climate emergency.

Reviving Ancestral Varieties
Perhaps the most ambitious research project at Familia Torres is the recovery of ancestral grape varieties.
Initiated in the early 1980s by Miguel A. Torres, the project seeks to rediscover cultivars that survived the phylloxera outbreak of the late 19th century.
Today, the fifth generation is driving this initiative further, producing unique and inspiring wines from long-forgotten varieties.
Regenerative Viticulture: A Paradigm Shift in Winemaking
The fifth generation of Familia Torres is leading a transformative vision: converting its organic vineyards into a regenerative model that not only combats climate change but restores the natural vitality of the soil, slows erosion, and fosters biodiversity.
This holistic approach to the land was formally adopted back in 2021, beginning with the winery’s most emblematic estates — Mas La Plana, Mas de la Rosa, and Milmanda — with the goal of applying regenerative viticulture across more than 500 hectares within five years.
Regenerative viticulture works by reviving life in the soil, mimicking natural ecosystems to enhance carbon capture, improve resilience to drought, and create balanced vineyard ecosystems.
The richer the soil’s biological life, the greater its capacity to sequester CO₂ from the atmosphere, store organic carbon, retain water, and support biodiversity — benefiting both the vineyard and the planet.
To amplify this movement at a broader level, Familia Torres co-founded the Association of Regenerative Viticulture, alongside Clos Mogador, Can Feixes, Jean Leon, and agricultural consultant AgroAssessor.
The association serves as a collaborative hub for winegrowers, farmers, winemakers, researchers, and companies to share knowledge, experience, and practices centered on the carbon cycle, offering a tangible solution to global warming.
In 2023, this initiative took a global step forward with the launch of the Regenerative Viticulture Alliance (RVA) certification, highlighting wine producers and growers who implement regenerative practices, sequester atmospheric CO₂, and fix it in the soils of their vineyards.
A bold example of how tradition, innovation, and sustainability can converge to shape the future of winemaking.
A rigorous methodology guides the process: identification of grape varieties, sanitary checks, in-vitro reproduction, adaptation to optimal soils, and evaluation of organoleptic and enological potential.
The winery has successfully revived around 50 varieties. Six of these have demonstrated exceptional potential: Querol and Garró (featured in Grans Muralles), Moneu (Clos Ancestral), Pirene and Gonfaus (single-varietal wines), and Forcada (single-varietal and Clos Ancestral Blanc).
These ancestral varieties are not only enological treasures but also remarkably resilient to drought and high temperatures, making them key assets in the face of climate change.
The project is now expanding to other regions of Spain and Chile, preserving the winemaking heritage and biodiversity of each terroir.
Selection of Native Yeasts
In parallel, Familia Torres has pioneered the identification and characterization of native yeasts from its emblematic estates. Initiated in 2013, this project aims to enhance each wine’s uniqueness and authenticity while promoting vineyard biodiversity.
Through careful selection and two distinct methodologies, the winery has identified indigenous yeasts with significant enological potential, enriching the flavor, character, and identity of its wines.
Wine Tourism & Gastronomy: Experiencing the World of Wine
Since opening its visitors centre in Pacs del Penedès in 1992, Familia Torres has been at the forefront of wine tourism, inviting guests from around the world to explore wine in its natural setting.
Recognized among the World’s 50 Best Vineyards in 2020, 2021, and 2022 by the editorial group William Reed, the centre offers immersive experiences that combine education, pleasure, and sensory delight.
