Mai, let’s start with you. When preparing for the interview we learned that you are a Civil Engineer, so the first thing we would like to discover is, how and when did My Uniform come about in your professional path?
Indeed, I am a Civil Engineer by training and in 2010 I decided to take the reins of the family business founded by my parents, Rafael Monterrubio and María del Carmen Berga, who founded My Uniform back in 1990, originally known as Balear of Uniforms.
From the origin of the company, my parents were pioneers in the import of fashionable garments applied to the workplace, introducing innovations such as fleece and multi-pocket pants.
I realized that my training and professional experience would allow me to bring a new perspective to my parents’ original project, so I decided to leave everything to direct the family business towards a more modern, innovative, and dynamic management, adapted to current times.

Mai, how would you define, through a first overview, what My Uniform is today, how has the company evolved from its origins to today?
Oh, it’s been 35 years since the company’s foundation… The corporate uniformity industry has undergone a major transformation over the past few decades, and we have witnessed that evolution firsthand.
Many things have changed from our origins to today, although there are also others that have remained intact over the years.
When my parents founded the company 35 years ago, uniformity was primarily conceived as a functional necessity: durable and practical garments, which served a specific purpose within each industry. Today, however, corporate uniformity goes much further: it has become an essential pillar of branding and brand identity and is integrated into the perception of the customer experience.
We have gone from generic and standard uniforms to completely customized designs, adapted not only to the corporate image of each company, but also to the ergonomics and well-being of its employees, according to their activity.
Another big change has been the growing orientation towards Sustainability.
35 years ago, no one talked about the circular economy, it was a concept that did not even exist, while today it is a priority.
At My Uniform we are deeply committed to Eco-design, we have opted for the reuse of recycled fabrics and we have developed collection programs for used uniforms to recycle them, minimizing the environmental impact.
In short, we have gone from a traditional and purely functional sector to an industry in which innovation, personalisation and sustainability are the great drivers of change.
Uniformity is no longer just workwear, it is a true manifesto of corporate identity and the best reflection of the culture and values of each company.

What principles would you say best represent your essence?
I would highlight, above all, our closeness, empathy and professionalism, as well as meticulous attention to detail.
Listening to the customer, really listening to them, is a valuable asset in these times…
We strongly believe in a passion for a job well done and the importance of building strong, lasting relationships.
In a world that is constantly evolving, I also believe that continuous training is essential to remain competitive and always provide maximum value to our customers.
I believe that it is imperative to stay updated, learn every day and be aware of our own limitations in order to overcome them.
These are the principles and values that have guided us since our inception and remain at the heart of our business philosophy.

Indeed. It’s essential to keep myself fully up to date on innovation, leadership and communication latest trends.
I have recently completed a very enriching course at IE Business School, thanks to Santander Bank, which I have enjoyed very much.
Listening to and learning from the greatest and exchanging experiences and perspectives with my colleagues has made me reflect and consider new and interesting changes.
I am deeply grateful for the opportunities that prestigious institutions such as IE Business School have given me, as well as the scholarships I have received from Banco Santander, which have allowed me to continue growing constantly both professionally and personally.

For me, continuous growth and evolution are fundamental not only on an individual level but also in what we have managed to build in My Uniform as a team.
It is this joint effort as a team that has earned us important recognitions for our career, such as the Revolutiona Award, awarded by BBVA and the University of Valencia, which highlights our commitment to excellence, sustainability and innovation and reaffirms My Uniform‘s leadership in the corporate uniformity sector, which motivates us even more to continue innovating and offering uniformity solutions that make a difference.

What is your philosophy in that sense?
It is very important for us to attract the best talent, and also to be attractive to it.
With 35 years of experience, My Uniform is a company with solid experience and in-depth knowledge of the sector.

Exactly. The strengths that best define us and position us ahead of our competition cannot be measured only in terms of price, although we also offer a product and service with the best value for money, but above all in terms of value.
In a fiercely competitive sector like ours, it can happen that a carefully prepared budget, taking into account every detail – from the design to the choice of fabrics – is surpassed by another one from another company, generated in a totally impersonal and automated way and based only on basic criteria such as the number of units in the order.
For us, it is essential to convey and make our customers, current and potential, understand that nowadays corporate uniformity should not be considered as an expense, but as an investment: A good uniform not only improves the company’s image, but also has a direct impact on employees and their well-being, and that is the first thing that the customer perceives.

Last year we started supplying uniforms to hotels in the Dominican Republic, a country to which I am currently traveling regularly, as we are exploring and developing new business and expansion opportunities, since the country has been very receptive to the level of quality of our products, designs and processes.
We have started to regularly supply orders to one of the most important Luxury Hotel-Resorts in the Dominican Republic and we expect to close different agreements with other hotel chains.
After a lot of prospecting and market research work, we moved on to the phase of face-to-face commercial proposals and presentations, and our trajectory, seriousness, professionalism and commitment have been valuable assets that have opened many doors for us.
It is not a question of reinventing our strengths but of exporting them to the world.
The need for high-quality and sustainable corporate uniform products is not a local requirement but a global one, and our ability to adapt and customise allows us to offer fully personalised designs and products, adapted to the specific preferences and needs of each company and country, according to their customs, culture, tastes and climate.
