Temple of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Barcelona

. ALL THIS I WILL GIVE YOU .

In the heart of Barcelona, high above the city, rises the majestic mountain known as Tibidabo,

Tibidabo‘s name is woven into the beautiful ancient legend that speaks of

Barcelona’s Allure, Resilience, and Divine Protection

It says like this: Once Upon a Time, when searching for the most magnificent spot in the world,

Satan himself climbed to the peak of the Collserola mountain, where he beheld, in absolute awe,

the astonishing splendor of the whole of Barcelona’s view, beneath the golden blush of the warm setting sun.

Barcelona’s shimmering golden light, framed by the mountains covered with lush forests and caressed by the azure of the Mediterranean Sea.

The sight was so magnificent that Satan decided to use it as a snare, a gift too beautiful for anyone to refuse…

This is where the Tibidabo name comes from, in Latin:

«Haec Tibi Omnia Dābō si cadens adōrāveris mē”

He looked up to Heaven searching for Jesus, glazing out of legend upon the kingdoms of the world, and he murmured to the heavens, trying to tempt Him:

«All these I Will Give You, if you fall down and worship me»

And Jesus, untempted and resolute, turned away from the devil’s proposal, unshaken in his divine faith.

Today, at the summit of Tibidabo’s mountain, stands the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in catalan the Temple del Sagrat Cor de Jesús, as a towering symbol of God’s protection over Barcelona and all its people.

From above, the figure of Christ gazes over Barcelona with outstretched arms, blessing, sheltering and protecting the city.

From below, the temple illuminates the sky for Barcelona, where heaven and earth meet with the sea, where the story of temptation gave way to the legacy of God´s eternal grace.

This is why Barcelona is Blessed.

Divinely Protected from above, sheltered by the Eternal Promise God held to her on the heights of Tibidabo.
